Pediatric Pelvic Physical Therapy
Pediatric pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy designed to help children who experience issues related to bowel and bladder function, pelvic pain, or pelvic floor muscle incoordination. The therapy is gentle, child-focused, and aims to improve a child’s quality of life through education, exercises, and behavioral strategies.
A typical session at Conkin Pelvic Health may involve:
A detailed history and assessment (often including input from parents or caregivers)
Education tailored to the child’s age, helping them understand how the bladder, bowel, and pelvic floor muscles work
Non-invasive treatment such as breathing exercises, posture training, core strengthening/coordination, balance training, stretches, and biofeedback to improve pelvic floor function.
Development of routines around toileting, hydration, and diet to support healthy habits
Play-based or age-appropriate activities to keep therapy engaging and comfortable
We work collaboratively with families and healthcare providers, and always aim to create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. Treatment is highly individualized and progresses at a pace that meets the child’s physical and emotional needs. *No internal assessment or treatment is performed in pediatric pelvic physical therapy.
